Chair’s Letter

September 14, 2023

Dear Alumni and Friends of UF Psychology,

It’s already the start of the Fall 2023 semester—a good time to recap some highlights from our Spring and Summer semesters. If you have been keeping up with our Psychology website or following us on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn) then you may have heard about some of this. If you missed it, please check out highlights in our Fall 2023 Newsletter to see what we’ve been up to.

Spring was all about our students. Our advisory board came to campus for a mentoring event with our undergraduate majors, and we held our undergraduate research forum. The research forum was in person for the first time since 2019; it was great to see the hallways filled with posters, students, and faculty discussing Psychological Science and the latest findings from our labs. Both events were supported by everyone who made a gift to Psychology on UF’s Giving Day 2023. Thanks so much for your generosity!

In addition, we held our annual spring awards ceremony (in person), recognizing the achievements of our graduate students over the 2022-23 Academic Year. Many of our awards are funded by endowments established by Alumni, former faculty members, and friends of Psychology. As you can see from the smiling faces, our graduate students and their advisors were excited and proud to have their outstanding contributions to Psychological Science acknowledged via these awards. Thanks so much to everyone who has supported these awards over the department’s history!

Our faculty continues to lead in research in Psychological Science with several newly funded projects; their work continues to be recognized in their field with national awards for excellence in research and outreach beyond academia.  Our newsletter provides a few highlights of these achievements.

As indicated above, our Psychology Advisory Board continues to be a resource for our students. Their work in mentoring was recognized by the Career Connections 2023 Influencer Award. Congratulations to the Board and thank you for your engagement!

As I have noted in the past, our accomplishments would not be possible without the support of our Alumni and Friends.  Thank you for your support as we build the future of Psychology Science and continue our 90-year legacy of excellence!

With gratitude,

Julia Graber
