Dr. Brian Cahill established a year-long internship with the Gainesville Public Defenders Office, exclusively for Psychology undergraduate students. Students will be working directly with lawyers who represent low income clients facing criminal charges in Alachua County, both misdemeanors and felonies. After a competitive process, three Psychology undergraduates have been named as the newest members of this internship cycle.
Megan DeVaney
I am currently a junior in Women’s Studies and Psychology on the Pre-Law track. I hope to pursue a career as a public defense attorney, and I am most excited for the opportunity to gain experience within the practice and instill valuable change within my community.
Esteban Cabassa
I am going into my 4th year as a Psychology major with an emphasis in Behavior Analysis and have a minor in trombone performance. I would like to pursue a career as a forensic psychologist and as a behavior analyst. What excites me about this internship is the great hands on experience it will provide in the field of forensics. I am very excited for this opportunity!

I am going into my 4th year at UF as a psychology and criminology double major. I am really passionate about both fields, and I want to go into a career that combines the two. I don’t quite know the specifics yet, but I plan to attend graduate school for legal psychology or a similar field. The thing I am most excited for about this internship is the opportunity to work directly with the legal system and gain that first-hand knowledge of how it operates on a day-to-day basis. That is an experience you just can’t get from a classroom.
