What began as a room filled with 20 surplus desktops, cubicle-style desks, rickety seating, and a tabletop projector with a VGA connector has now become a modern, collaborative learning environment.
Before the Upgrade
The original lab setup served the department for many years, but the technology was severely outdated, the computers were extremely slow, and the space was often used reluctantly as a last-ditch option for lectures and presentations. Each workstation was isolated in a cubicle, limiting interaction and flexibility. A surplus tabletop projector served as the primary display, and the overall layout reflected a traditional, individual-focused workspace.
After the Transformation
Today, the lab is a dynamic, tech-forward space designed to foster collaboration and interactive learning. Key upgrades include:
- Five high-end computers—each equipped with 64GB of memory, discrete graphics, and 2TB of solid-state storage—paired with 34″ video conferencing monitors mounted on fully-articulating arms. This setup provides a clean, expansive work surface and encourages both small and large group collaboration.
- At the front of the room, a 75″ 4K interactive touch monitor is paired with a micro desktop computer and a camera/speaker bar, enabling seamless presentations, hybrid learning, and interactive discussions.
- Dynamic, modern furnishings, including five semi-round modular tables and mobile chairs, allow the space to adapt easily to different group sizes and activities, promoting a more open and collaborative atmosphere.
This upgrade not only modernizes our technology but also reimagines how we use the space—fostering teamwork, creativity, and engagement in every teaching and learning opportunity.
