UF Psychology makes an impact in and out of the classroom

The UF Department of Psychology continues to set the standard for innovation in education. For the fourth consecutive year, UF’s online psychology undergraduate program has been ranked in the top 5 nationally by U.S. News & World Report, reflecting the department’s dedication to academic rigor, flexibility, and student-centered learning.

Beyond the classroom, psychology students are gaining real-world experience that brings their studies to life. In Spring 2025, more than 400 students participated in experiential learning opportunities including faculty-mentored research, community mental health initiatives, and internships in both local and federal public defender’s offices.

From research at the UF Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment to internships that bridge psychology and law, students are discovering how their education can make a tangible impact. “Everything clicks when students can apply the principles they learn in the classroom and see how they affect behavior,” said Professor Tim Vollmer, director of the Behavior Analysis Research Clinic.

Department Chair Julia Graber added, “Taking the principles they have learned outside the classroom makes it real. Students can see the impact psychology can have on people and their lives.”

The department’s commitment to hands-on learning is further supported by the Balkhi Foundation Experiential Learning Award, which recognizes students who creatively integrate technology with psychological science.

Through rigorous academics, research, and applied experience, UF psychology students are not only learning about human behavior—they are using that knowledge to shape the world around them.
