The counseling psychology Ph.D. program is housed within the Department of Psychology at the University of Florida. The program consists of six core faculty, has been continually accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1954, and has a scientist-practitioner model of training. Over the last 5 years, the average number of applicants for admission is 142 and the average number of students who start the program each year is 4. We do not take GRE scores anymore, and there are no strict cutoffs on GPA. We encourage all applicants to apply. GPA is just one part of how we evaluate successful applicants.
Successful applicants to the program tend to be individuals familiar with the requirements of APA-accredited programs in counseling psychology, match the research interests of a specific faculty member, and have strong research and interpersonal skills. There are multiple ways the program will evaluate how applicants meet these criteria. Specific instructions on how to apply to the program and application deadlines can be found at this website: https://psych.ufl.edu/graduate/prospective-grads/admissions/. The Counseling Psychology program is committed to recruiting and retaining diverse students and, in particular, encourages students with diverse backgrounds to apply to the program.
