Departmental Supported Software
To maintain the highest level of support possible for software we focus on one product for each type of task. Below is listed the departmental software that is available free for all University owned and managed computers. Additional software can be installed but will have limited support.
- Email - Mozilla Thunderbird.
- Web Browsing - Mozilla Firefox.
- PDF Files (reading) - Acrobat Reader.
- PDF Files (writing) - PrimoPDF for programs other than MS Office.
- Database - Microsoft Access 2007/2010.
- Spreadsheets - Microsoft Excel 2007/2010.
- Slide Presentation - Microsoft PowerPoint 2007/2010.
- Newsletter - Microsoft Publisher 2007/2010.
- Word Processing - Microsoft Word 2007/2010.
- Antivirus - McAfee Antivirus.
- FTP - Filezilla.
- Firewall - Windows 7 Firewall.
- Zip files - Native Windows 7 support.
- PDA sync - Native Windows 7 support.
- Video Display - Microsoft Media Player, Quicktime.
- Web Design - Trillian, Joomla
Additional Software
The following software can be installed through Deparmental licensing, but may a cost associated with it.
- Statistics - SPSS, SAS, G*Power 3.
- PDF Files (writing) - Adobe Acrobat.
- Graphing - SigmaPlot.
- Graphics - Adobe CS Suite.
- Audio Editing - Audacity.
- Test Banks - EZTest, TestGen, Diploma.
- Web Design - Adobe CS Suite
Other Software
Additional software can be installed but will have limited support.
Prohibited Software
Sotware that runs as a server. This includes, but is not limited to, file servers, print servers, web servers, remote access to desktop, and peer-to-peer networking.
- Common music and video sharing programs such as Bearshare, Morpheus, and Limewire, along with concern of copyright violations, are peer-to-peer networking programs.
- DropBox is a peer-to-peer networking program. It also has other concerns. By agreeing to install the software you are consenting to allow Dropbox (a 3rd party) access to a University owned computer. You do not have permission to do that. The University would not allow this for security reason. Also, from their ELUA, "...you hereby grant all other Dropbox users and the public a non-exclusive, non-commercial, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable, perpetual and irrevocable right and license to use and exploit Your Files..."
